For more than 30 years Stonewall have been working to create a world where all children and young people have access to an LGBT inclusive education.  The Stonewall School & College Champion awards allow School & College Champions based in England to effectively benchmark their progress and give direction to their ongoing work on LGBT inclusion, tackling homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying and celebrating diversity.

  • tackling homophobic, biphobia and transphobic bullying
  • making our school a place where all pupils and staff are accepted without exception
  • championing diversity and celebrating difference

Stonewall use the awards framework to benchmark school’s work and continue to develop your best practice approach as you work towards Bronze, Silver or Gold.

Roselyn House were award the School Champion Bronze award in 2019 and are presently working towards the Silver Award.

In order to achieve bronze award our school policies and practices have been updated and all pupils and staff have been surveyed to understand better the perspectives not only of LGBT people at Roselyn House, but all members of our community with regard to sexuality and gender identity.

Staff training sessions have taken place focusing on actively supporting LGBT students and tackling homophobic language and behaviour. In addition, a collection of resources for staff has been developed to support these aims.

Students have also had a number of opportunities to reflect upon the experience of LGBT young people in the UK and at Roselyn House through assemblies, displays, talks and the PSHE lessons.

As Stonewall School Champions you become part of a national family of schools & colleges leading the way in celebrating difference.

Roselyn House School have highly inclusive school policies, actively tackle homophobic bullying, embed LGBT issues in their curriculum and staff training and support diversity in the wider school community.
