Stonewall School Champions Silver Award
Roselyn House School was awarded the Stonewall Bronze award in 2019, our continued commitment to the celebration of equality and diversity has again been recognised, with the school achieving the status of a Stonewall Silver Champion School.
We are so proud to have been awarded Stonewall’s School Champions Silver Award in recognition of our ongoing work to embed good practice promoting respect and understanding of LGBT+ people and issues.
The Silver Award focuses on schools where gender equality and diversity is celebrated, and understanding and celebrating difference is embedded within the curriculum. The award also focuses on our work to challenge and tackle homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying and language, and to help all of our children to understand why it is important to be tolerant and respectful of all people, linking in with our work on British Values.
Feedback from Stonewall’s judging panel noted “Challenging bullying and creating an environment where everybody is respected as their unique self is clearly a whole-school commitment for Roselyn House School and a foundational part of our ethos.”
Additionally, the panel commented “Our whole school commitment to inclusion and to celebrating everybody's unique self is so clear and is embedded in so many aspects of our policy and practice. Staff and students, both those who are LGBT+ and those who are not, are clearly well-supported and given lots of opportunities to develop their understanding of diversity, including what it means to be LGBT+”
All staff at Roselyn House School are trained to challenge homophobic, biphobic and transphobic (HBT) bullying and language, support LGBT young people and provide Relationships & Sex Education that is inclusive of LGBT+ people.
