On Tuesday 8th October, students in KS3 at Roselyn House School enjoyed a visit from Pep the Poet. Students and staff were treated to a morning of poetry, laughter and imagination. Among the highlights of the session were the poems ‘Quieten the Squirrel’ and ‘The Scarecrow Rap’. Students also had the opportunity to write their own poem under the guidance of a poet.
‘Quieten the Squirrel’ sparked giggles as Pep's quirky portrayal of his mischievous pet squirrel sprung to life through the poem. But it was ‘Scarecrow Rap’ that really got the room buzzing. With its lively beat and clever wordplay, the rap-style poem had students up on their feet and joining with the chorus. Pep’s energetic performance encouraged the class to get involved, clapping along and mimicking the scarecrow’s swagger.
Students were delighted at the opportunity to choose one of Pep’s five books to have signed and to take home. Pep the Poet’s visit will certainly be remembered as a highlight of the school year, leaving students inspired to explore the world of poetry in their own unique ways.
